The Town of Boxford is enveloped in deep sorrow following the untimely passing of Paul Polonsky, who died early yesterday morning while fulfilling his duty as an overnight dispatcher at the Boxford Police Station. Paul’s life was a testament to unwavering dedication to public safety, a commitment that touched multiple communities throughout his distinguished career.

For years, Paul served as a vital dispatcher in Ipswich, Hamilton, Topsfield, Boxford, and at Endicott College. His commitment extended to his tenure as an officer with the Essex County Sheriff’s Department and his significant service as a reserve police officer in Boxford from 1984 to 2012, alongside similar roles in Danvers and Essex. These roles forged a profound and lasting connection to our town.

Even in retirement, Paul’s spirit of service remained undimmed. He most recently stepped up to assist Boxford during the crucial transition to the North Shore Regional 911 Center, demonstrating his enduring willingness to answer the call when needed.

Paul’s legacy of service is beautifully mirrored in his family. His daughter, Officer Tammy Broughton, proudly serves on the Boxford Police Department, a poignant symbol of his influence. Many will recall the touching moment when Paul had the honor of pinning his badge onto Officer Broughton as she embarked on her law enforcement journey, a powerful emblem of his dual devotion to family and public service.

Paul Polonsky’s passing represents a profound loss for our Police and Fire Departments, our communications colleagues across the region, and the entire Boxford community. His dedication and service will be deeply missed.

My heart is broken with Paul’s passing. Paul was an exceptional co-worker whether in the cruiser or on the desk. I always felt that I had the best covering my back. So many great times on the job and off, stories and laughs together. We stayed in touch even though I have been retired 20 years. My last conversation with him was sadly to talk about Chief Peter Silva’s passing. Rest easy my friend and say Hi to Joe VanLoon when you see him….God Bless you Paul and thanks for all you did for for Public Safety. 💙💔
